In a
community that is world renowned for its contemporary architecture,
Gallery 423
proudly offers fine American art
and contemporary fine crafts, jewelry, glass,
pottery, furniture
and wearables by
more than 100 American artists.
In
addition to the artists whose works are featured permanently,
Gallery 423 hosts
special featured-artist shows.
Guests are invited to attend receptions
and meet
the highlighted artists and learn about their work.
One recent
exhibit featured former Columbus artists
who have relocated to other parts of
the country.
Located in a historic building in downtown Columbus, Indiana,
Gallery 423 offers
functional art that also embellishes the home.
Enjoy relaxed shopping in an
inspiring atmosphere.
Geri
Handley, former gallery manager
of the Columbus Museum of Art & Design,
and Kathy Leitholt operate the gallery.
Leitholt has worked in art education
and was a
partner for a number of years
of Fiddlestix Gallery in Nashville, Indiana.
Both
Handley and Leitholt were involved
in the former Columbus Museum Shop
that
provided the inspiration for the new venture.
The gallery also houses the studio of Columbus artist Laurie Wright.
Laurie is a printmaker whose contemporary work
features
bright colors and a feel-good happiness.
Her process can be viewed most days at
Gallery 423.
Wright graduated
from Columbus College of Art and Design (Columbus, Ohio)
and worked in
commercial art, design and photography.
A class in silkscreen printing at the Riverbend Art Center in Dayton
played a role in her current passion.
The art of
serigraphy, commonly known as silkscreen,
was first practiced in Asia many
centuries ago
although her work differs significantly from those early
interpretations.
Gallery 423 is located in downtown Columbus at 423 Washington Street.
Hours are Monday-Friday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
and Saturday, 10:00 am to 2:00
pm.
